Dreams in the Witch House: A Rock Opera

What’s up Geek Nation? I hope you all had a great time ringing in the New Year! Today I thought I would write my first of many new articles this year. It’s something I’ve been wanting to share with you all for a long time.  On Geektrum we talk about geeky stuff including everything that is amazing about our fandoms and communities. Well, this one is not just for all of my fellow geeks but for the Lovecraftians out there as well.

3eadbc07a552457a08cfd8853eccbd32 I was given the pleasure of listening to an amazing new Rock Opera based on the book The Dreams in the Witch House by H.P. Lovecraft. This album is the brain child of singer/song-writer, actor and producer Mike Dalager.

Mike has been in the industry for over 20 years on stage and on the big screen; with roles in The Whisperer in DarknessNip/Tuck and his latest,  Star Trek Into Darkness.

Mike came up with the idea of creating the rock opera after falling in love with the book on a flight to Stockholm. Not too long after, he came to his long-time music co-writer, Chris Laney with an idea: to produce the story of The Dream in the Witch House into a rock opera.

This isn’t the first time an accomplished actor has tried to make a piece of art from one of H.P. Lovecrafts fantastic stories. Not too long ago Guillermo del Toro attempted to produce At the Mountains of Madness into a feature film, but the powers that be killed it before it got started.  So, 20 months later Mike and his creative team wrote and produced Dreams in the Witch House with an all-star cast of singers and musicians These include Mike Dalager himself, as well as Lennart Ostlund, Chris Laney, Anders Ringman,Andrew Leman, Sean Branney, Stuwart Ambrose and the extremely talented Alaine Kashian.

This project had been a labor of love for Mike, going from convention to convention promoting his work. WitchHouseLP This last summer, Mike and his great team from Witch House Rock were at SDCC showing off their work and selling their impressive CD and amazing Gatefold Double LP.

Since then Mike has taken Dreams in the Witch House on a Country wide tour from SDCC here in San Diego all the way to Chicago’s Days of the Dead. He’ll also be at Long Beach Comic Con on February 28th and March 1st 2015.

With the success of Dreams in the Witch house and the amazing fan base, Mike has announced the launch of the Dreams in the Witch House Comic Book which will hit sometime this year. The Comic is being done by San Diego Comic Book Writer and Artist Chad Cavanaugh.  The Comic will tell the tales of spacific tracks off the Album. With the first comic being for the track SIGNUM CRUCIS which is one of my favorite tracks on DITWH.  I’ll keep you all up to date with a relase date and where you can grab a copy as soon as it is announced.

Like most great new works, they have seen some ups and downs. Most have been ups! With reviews from Ain’t it Cool News, Fangoria, XXLRock.com and FROMBEYOND.SE., this is just the beginning for this fantastic album.

The music is a great mix of Rock from all generations.  It has songs everyone can love and relate to. With the talented cast of singers and musicians I’m sure this won’t be the last time we hear about Dreams in the Witch House,
