CCP Games, known for single handedly funding Iceland’s entire GOP, and the makers of EvE Online one of the most amazing MMO’s ever created, had a little something special to show off at their EvE Fanfest this year; An Oculus Rift-supported dog fighting simulator using EvE Assets and rendering engine. It was enough to make any internet space ship captain cry. Today they announced that they are taking serious internet spaceships even more seriously, with EvE Valkyrie.
“From the moment this year’s Fanfest attendees first got their hands on EVE Valkyrie, the question has been, ‘When can I have this?’” CCP boss Hilmar Petursson told IGN
EVE Valkyrie started out as just a side hobby by some EvE Developers using the Oculus Dev Kit, and will now be released as a full fledged online combat simulation. More details are scarce at the moment, but I can tell you I am excited. I currently have been budgeting getting an Oculus Dev Kit myself, but being a bitter EvE vet i’ll have to surely commit now. EVE Valkyrie is everything most EvE players have wanted for years, and what a way to deliver. CCP already has a EVE Valkyrie site up, which you can sign up for further updates as they are available.
