Nintendo held another broadcast of it’s Nintendo Direct yesterday to give us a heads up on what to look out for in Spring 2014 and a few other projects they are working on. The half hour video showcased both Wii U and 3DS/2DS games and a few things coming to the eShop. They are mainly titles that we’ve been hearing about for a while with one exception.
Nintendo updated us on the new Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze that is due out in the spring. This time we get to see the newest playable Kong member Cranky Kong, though not a new character all together we will finally see what the eldest Kong can do with that cane of his. From everything we’ve seen so far about Tropical Freeze it looks like it will please anyone that is a Donkey Kong fan and bring new gamers to the franchise.
Along with Donkey Kong a few other titles on the Wii U were brought in to the spot light this time around, Wii Sports Club will soon be adding a golf game to the line up along with Tennis and Bowling. It will have the original golf course from the first Wii Sports game on the Nintendo Wii and it will also have a course from a classic game called U.S.A. Golf Course. Nintendo also released yesterday on the Wii U eShop NES Remix, a group 16 classic game levels with new twists to highlight both the past and present of Nintendo Gaming.
Just because 2013 is coming to and end doesn’t mean that the Year of Luigi is, out this December is Dr. Luigi, a remix of the classic Dr. Mario games with the younger brother prescribing the meds. Dr. Luigi adds a few new features to playing with online capabilities and a new pill to be used.
At the end of the broadcast we were treated to the reveal of a new fighter in Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS. Lets all welcome Rosalina and Luma to the arena and hope they can help balance out the male female ratio of power in the game. I’m glad to see another strong female character to play and hope they can think of at least one or two more to add. Along with the Rosalina announcement Nintendo also showed a trailer for another long standing Franchise Mario Kart 8, though it looks like it will only be on the Wii U this time, the game looks like it is going to be as much fun as the past installments.
I think the biggest news revealed on Nintendo Direct for the Wii U was the announcement of a Legend of Zelda spin-off Hyrule Warriors (not final title). The game is going to be a crossover between Zelda and Dynasty Warriors, from the trailer it looks like it is going to be a fun hack and slash Zelda game that will please many Zelda and just action game fans.
Though a lot was announced for the Wii U yesterday the 3DS was far from forgotten. First, Kirby: Triple Deluxe had new game modes announced, a four-player Kirby fighter mode and a rhythm-based platform mode with King Dedede headlining. Along with the new modes Kirby has been given an all new inhale ability called Hypernova. We were also given more information on Pokémon Bank and Pokémon Transporter that will come online 12/27, If you have reservations about the new storage system it’s understandable but go ahead and try the free 30-day trial and get your hands on the Celebi that anyone who uses the service will receive.
Kirby isn’t the only one coming to the 3DS soon; we will be seeing Yoshi jumping onto the dual screen in 2014 with his new adventure Yoshi’s New Island. The game features a new art style that looks fresh and introduces Giant Eggs that look like they would be painful for Yoshi to lay. We also got new details about Bravely Default, an RPG that is already out in Europe and Japan, the game utilizes the 3DS’ ability to go into sleep mode to help you power up your team or items with sleep points. And finally another fan favorite is returning to the West, Chibi Robo will be on the 3DS eShop early January in Chibi Robo Photo Finder.
