This Weeks Movie Recommendation: Shaun of the Dead

Theater2

Welcome Geeks to this weeks movie recommendation and that movie is…….. 3p05j8

Shaun of the Dead staring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

This film is one of my all-time favorite films; what they did with this film was brilliant! A comedic love story that takes place during the Zombie Apocalypse.

The film was the brain child of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright. The two first started working together on the BBC series called Spaced, the idea for Shaun of the Dead was realized after the two wrote the episode “ART”; where Tim (Pegg) took some cheap speed and started to hallucinate that everyone at an art show were the Zombies from Resident Evil.

Here is the film synopsis:

Shaun is a 30-something loser with a dull, easy existence. When he’s not working at the electronics store, he lives with his slovenly best friend, Ed, in a small flat on the outskirts of London. The only unpredictable element in his life is his girlfriend, Liz, who wishes desperately for Shaun to grow up and be a man. When the town is inexplicably overrun with zombies, Shaun must rise to the occasion and protect both Liz and his mother.

If that isn’t enough for you here is the original trailer for the film.

Here are some facts about the film:

  • Did you know that George A. Romero, the creator of Night of the Living Dead was so impressed with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright‘s work that he asked them to appear in Land of the Dead (2005), the fourth part of his Dead series, in cameos as zombies.
  • In the film all of the newsreaders and television presenters are real people portraying themselves.
  • Shaun berates Ed for calling the creatures zombies (“the zed word,” which they are, of course). This alludes to the curious fact that many of the most iconic zombie movies (including Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Resident Evil (2002)) never feature the word “zombie” at all. It can also be a reference to Danny Boyle, director of 28 Days Later… (2002), and his insistence that it isn’t a zombie movie.

It took £4 Million to make the film and it grossed £30 Million.

So Geeks there you have it your movie recommendation for this week is Shaun of the Dead. Now get out there and watch it.

Till next time: keep it GEEKY.
