What’s going on Geek Nation? This week’s movie recommendation I have for you is one of those films that was plagued by studio issues and corporate BS, and it almost never saw a release date. But thanks to the “never give up never surrender” attitude of the films director Kyle Newman, it received a limited US release on February 6th, 2009 and that film was FANBOYS.
The film follows a group of friends who plan a road-trip to infiltrate Skywalker Ranch and steal a copy of Star Wars Episode I before the film releases. On their trip they run into some familiar faces and a few unsuspected surprises.
Check out the trailer below:
Here are a few cool facts about the film:
The coffee shop where Windows meets Rogue Leader is called “Java the Hut.” This isn’t just a clever play on words involving the Star Wars character, it’s also the name of the coffee shop where Kristen Bell’s character worked in Veronica Mars (2004).
The film was originally suppose to see a theatrical release in 2006.
The security guards at Lucas Ranch dress in the security uniforms from THX 1138 (1971), one of George Lucas’ early directorial efforts.
And there you have it geeks, today’s movie recommendation is FANBOYS. I hope you all enjoy it and if you have seen it I hope you watch it again.
